Flyers Lose Second In As Many Nights

After a Friday night home loss, the Fort St. John Senior Men’s Flyers were unable to even up a home-and-home series on the road. Saturday, the Flyers wrapped up their second home-and-home series with the Horse Lake Chiefs, with the final game of the series played on the road in Horse Lake. The results were less-than-ideal for the Flyers, who lost 4-3, while being out shot 44-30.

The Flyers got the start they were looking for, as rookie defenceman Peyton Wongstead scored the game’s opening goal, his first as a Flyer, giving Fort St. John the 1-0 lead.

With the second period beginning with a 1-0 Flyer lead, it was the Chiefs who came to play in the second, scoring the period's only two goals, providing Horse Lake a 2-1 lead at the start of the third.

Roughly four minutes into the final frame, Jason Deleurme scored, tying the game for Fort St. John. Unfortunately, the tie didn’t last very long, as Horse Lake scored twice more in the third, taking a 4-3 lead. The Flyers added another goal in the third to make it a 4-3 game, but couldn’t produce another game-tying-goal.

The road loss brings the Flyers record to 1-3 against Horse Lake during the consecutive home-and-home series’.

The Flyers will next take to the ice Thursday, Jan.26, when they play their rivals, the Dawson Creek Canucks, in their barn. Then Friday, Jan.27, they will be back at the North Peace Arena when they host the Hythe Mustangs.
